Dealer targeted by Bounce Back Loan scheme scam
A dealer has taken to social media to warn dealers and all sellers of a scam involving the coronavirus Bounce Back Loan system which nearly cost him more than £80,000.
Stephen Bogan of James Glen Car Sales in Airdrie posted a Facebook Live video detailing how someone attempted to fraudulently buy a Porsche Cayman GTS from him using a Bounce Back Loan applied for in the car dealer’s name.
Payment for the vehicle was said to be coming from a company called ‘BB Ltd’ but alarm bells were already ringing when the customer didn’t wish to know anything about the vehicle or pay a deposit.
When the money arrived, Bogan called his bank to check the funds were legitimate and that they could not be withdrawn only to find that the payment from BBL Ltd was through the government-backed Bounce Back Loan scheme which had been taken out in the name of the dealership.

Explaining the scam in the video, Bogan said: “This rotter had asked for an invoice with bank details on it, he’s gone online and got my date of birth and address for the business and applied for a f***ing Bounce Back Loan in my name to the tune of £40,000 pounds to make it look like he’s paid for this car and expects us to release it when we have got the money. Which we have, but it’s my own bloody money.”
